Add to the one trillion trees total

Sandy McDonald

Why every tree is precious

‘Omana, an Olarina lumin, knew how gawples explained this miracle. He whispered to his daughter Difany, that’s what they call air, made up of two vapours they call gases—carbon dioxide, which trees breathe in and oxygen, which trees breathe out.  It’s this vapour that keeps all land creatures alive.  Magical isn’t it? That we breathe in what the trees breathe out. That’s why they’re so precious.‘  (Taken from the original manuscript, Min Barklin and the silver radiants.’

‘Min who had been listening intently asked, why would gawples do anything that might mean they couldn’t breathe?’

Good question Min.

SAD FACT: Over 25 years, we’ve lost 502,000 square miles of forest, an area the size of South Africa.

Do not lose heart.  There are many wonderful initiatives we can take hope from, and contribute to.

ONE TRILLION TREES!

The Trillion Tree Campaign was launched in 2018 by Plant-for-the-Planet. The aim is to repopulate the world’s trees and fight climate change. It built on the Billion Tree Campaign in 1977 by Wangari Maathai, who founded the Green Belt Movement. **

GLAD FACT: By the 30 May 2021, 164 restoration projects had planted 13.96 billion trees worldwide.

You may think your one tree will make no difference.  But what if every young person on the planet planted just one tree?  That would be roughly 2 billion trees to add to the trillion trees total!  There is strength in numbers, as Min finds out.

Plant a tree

Every tree planted adds to that huge total of 1 trillion trees.

You can plant a tree in your garden. Most nurseries have what they call tube stock, from which you can choose many types of tree for as little as AU$4.00.

A tree needs care and nourishing to flourish.  Here is how you can do that.
