Hello dear reader,
That’s me, Sandy McDonald, the author pointing into the gum tree in which this story all began.
Min flew into my head early one morning. Like 3am early. I had no idea where she’d come from, or why she’d come.
Later that day, I went to look into the canopy of this gum tree.
A raging inferno was spread across the eastern seaboard of Australia. It was a terrifying time. I wondered about the trees dying and about the creatures and the beings that lived in their canopies.
Then I heard about the Wollemi Pines forest being saved. The idea for this book began.
Min, this tiny, fragile being with her passion for trees, her yet unformed gifts as an Intuitor, and her lumin clans’ ability to regenerate trees by shedding their precious tears, seemed to be talking to me.

mountain gum home
I have come to love Min. She lives with, and mostly manages anxiety. She does a great job of juggling all sorts of conflicting emotions to try and arrive at the best answer.
Often she is filled with doubt, but she is curious and willing to explore what she doesn’t yet know.
It is my hope that Min’s endless tussle with her wings, her struggles, her curiosity, and how she applies what she learns along the way, will inspire you to look at trees and nature differently.
I hope too that her efforts to manage her anxiety might help you, if you feel distressed about the state of the planet and inspire you towards collaboration and positive action on behalf of trees and their ecosystems.
As this is cemented in Min’s DNA, my wish is that it will become part of yours too.
Love Sandy
.
